Send the National Guard to Houtson NOW!

I don't get it. Did the government learn ANYTHING this month? If there's a hurricane coming, and there are poor people who can't get out of Houston, why in the world are we not sending the National Guard to get them out now. That's what I call forethought. That's what I call leadership. It's an outrage.

Editorial cartoons

The editorial cartoons are biting. I particularly like Chan Lowe (Sept. 2), Jack Ohman (Sept. 1), and Don Wright (Sept. 1).

The hurricane of 1900

I would like to point out that the hurricane of 1900 seems to be the worst hurricane until Katrina, where 6000-8000 people died. That was in a day before weather forecasting and the transportation of the middle 1900s. It amazes me that we may end up with similar losses of life when we have the technological advances and the prior knowledge that we do.

The pictures at the end of the article are of Galveston, completely demolished.
